Excavations began. These excavations has been continuing for 8 years now and about to be finished. Archeologists stated that they finished %90 of their work.
During these excavations archeologists unearthed settlement areas from the Neolithic, Byzantine, Ottoman and Republic periods:
A port from the time of Theodisius was also excavated. This port is expected to be one of the important transportation ports of Byzantine times. Archeologists also dicovered 35 boat wrecks from various periods.
Another important find is the Neolithic settlement, which is the earliest
settlement in the historic peninsula. This is very important because the history of Istanbul dated back to a certain period so far. With these excavations first settlement is expected to go back 8,500 years ago.
Labaratory and restoration work is also taking place. Some of these finds today are displayed in Istanbul Archeology Museum. A new museum is planned to display all these findings.
